The Trips Trick: How to Memorize Every Top-Row Trips Bonus in 5 Seconds

Trips up top are one of the juiciest bonuses in Pineapple OFC — and one of the most annoying tables to memorize. Thirteen different values, from trip deuces to trip aces? No thanks.

Here's the trick: the bonus for trips up top is always the card's rank value plus 8. That's it. That's the whole table.

Check it yourself:

So the full ladder — 222 = +10, 333 = +11, 444 = +12… all the way to AAA = +22 — collapses into one rule you literally cannot forget: rank + 8. The only thing to remember is that face cards count J = 11, Q = 12, K = 13, and the ace counts as 14.

Why does this matter beyond trivia night? Because when you're deciding whether to gamble on trips up top, you should know instantly what you're playing for. Trip 6s (+14) versus trip Kings (+21) is a seven-point difference — real money in a real hand. And don't forget: any trips up top also sends you back to Fantasyland if you're already there (Re-Fantasy), which makes the math even sweeter.

Bonus: the pairs ladder, for contrast

Pairs up top have their own mini-formula. Royalties start at 66 = +1 and climb one point per rank up to AA = +9. In other words: rank − 5. A pair of 9s? 9 − 5 = +4. A pair of Queens? 12 − 5 = +7 (plus the small detail that QQ+ up top puts you in Fantasyland). Below 66, pairs pay nothing.

Two formulas, zero tables:
